Former SOUNDGARDEN/AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell has told Canada’s Sun Media that he’s not interested in filling Robert Plant’s shoes should those reports about LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham touring next year with a replacement singer come to fruition.

“I would never do anything like that whether I were approached or not,” Cornell said. “It just doesn’t make any sense to me at all. I would not want to go see me performing LED ZEPPELIN songs with the two other guys that used to be in a band called LED ZEPPELIN while Robert Plant is out somewhere touring.

“That’s not a ticket I would buy. God bless ‘em, but that’s not LED ZEPPELIN. I find it completely depressing. I’d never do anything like that. I mean just out of respect to the legacy of the band.”

In interview, Chris Cornell says Led Zeppelin reunion tour is depressing

November 10, 2008

Chris Cornell has described the idea of a Led Zeppelin reunion (minus their frontman Robert Plant) as depressing.

The remaining members of the band recently hinted they would be touring in 2009, but with a replacement singer standing in for the absent Plant.

Cornell himself was rumored to be fronting the tour, which he later played down. Now he’s revealed his true feelings on the rockers’ reunion plans:

“I would never do anything like that whether I were approached or not. It just doesn’t make any sense to me at all.”

“I would not want to go see me performing Led Zeppelin songs with the two other guys that used to be in a band called Led Zeppelin while Robert Plant is out somewhere touring.”

Here is some news on one of those band going for Motley Crue tour opening slot

November 10, 2008

Two guys who grew up in Rockford and their Chicago band have a one-in-six chance of opening for Mötley Crüe on the rock icon’s 2009 U.S. tour.

The Last Vegas, formed by brothers Nate Arling, 29, and Adam Arling, 32, will audition Nov. 10 at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Hollywood before Mötley Crüe members. Five other bands also are performing there with the hope of being chosen to go on the tour. It’s the top prize in the Guitar Center On-Stage: Your Chance to Make Rock History contest.

The groups were selected as finalists from 7,930 bands that registered at makerockhistory.com. The top 30 bands were chosen from fan votes and judges, and they performed in regional finals.

Along with opening for Mötley Crüe, the winning band gets prizes including $25,000 cash, $20,000 in Gibson gear and a recording deal. Mötley Crüe’s 1980s hits include “Shout at the
Devil,” “Smokin’ in the Boys’ Room,” “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Dr. Feelgood.”

Other Last Vegas members are Chad Cherry, vocals; John Wator, guitar; and Anthony Rubino, bass. Nate Arling plays drums; Adam Arling, guitar.

The Last Vegas describes its music as “the return of trashed-up, guitar-driven, leather-clad rock.” The band has sold more than 10,000 records and toured in 17 countries. It leaves next week for a European tour. It last played in Rockford this summer at Bar 3.

Go to makerockhistory.com to hear The Last Vegas play “So Young, So Pretty, So What” off its self-titled, latest CD.

Nate Arling told the Register Star in a telephone interview that opening for Mötley Crüe would be an “amazing experience.”

“We are very hungry to keep moving up the ladder,” he said. “Winning this could really be the springboard.”
