FILTER READYING RELEASE OF “REMIXES FOR THE DAMNED”
Multi-Platinum, politically-fueled rockers, Filter, will be releasing a remix album featuring brand new takes on various tracks from their latest masterpiece, Anthems For The Damned. The REMIXES FOR THE DAMNED album will be available on November 4.
FILTER’s first independently released album, Anthems for the Damned, is a pro-troops, anti-war statement that also tackles the need to look around at the state of things and what kind of world we are leaving to our children. Making a return to his industrial roots, Richard Patrick feels that some of these songs could benefit from an industrial feel. Patrick states, “I love the way Anthems sounds, but I just wanted to try something new. I’ve been living with the tracks for the past year and half so I felt it would be interesting to get a different take on some of these songs.”
Set for a digital-only release, the new album features remakes of select songs on Anthems by Richard Patrick, Mitch Marlow, John Spiker, Clayton W (Revolting Cocks, Ministry), Timmy the Terror Anderson (Ima Robot), Rae DiLeo (Producer, Engineer for Filter), Ben Wise (Producer), Ryan Williams, Carlos Villalobos and John O’Brien. The release will be available all over the web, for specific outlets please see www.myspace.com/filter1

Finnish Group Apocalyptica Album Tops the Chart

Finnish Group Apocalyptica Tops the Chart;
Extreme Cello Rockers Reach #1
Los Angeles, CA – November 18, 2008 – Finland’s masters of hard rock cello, Apocalyptica, attain another career milestone this week with a radio chart topper. Their latest single, “I Don’t Care” featuring Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace, has landed at #1 on the BDS and Mediabase Active Rock radio charts. The fact that they have supplanted Metallica at the chart summit is somewhat ironic considering Apocalyptica’s roots as re-interpreters of the seminal metal band’s work.
Apocalyptica’s sixth album and first for 2020/Jive Records, Worlds Collide, is their most successful to date in the US. The first single from the album, which cracked the top 10 of both the Active Rock and Alternative charts, as well as receiving a good deal of video airplay, was “I’m Not Jesus” featuring Corey Taylor of Slipknot. “I Don’t Care”, the album’s second single, has not only hit #1 on the Active Rock charts but is also #3 Alternative and has received extensive video play on MTV2, Fuse, and Music Choice. The album also features guest appearances from Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil, Till Lindemann of Rammstein, and Dave Lombardo of Slayer.
Apocalyptica is its own unique and maverick musical animal, one that continues to reinvent itself. Formed solely of cellists in 1993, a drummer was added in 2005 to complete the Finnish band. In support of Worlds Collide, Apocalyptica has been touring the USA extensively as a headliner as well as making memorable appearances at radio festivals and a historic main stage performance at this year’s Ozzfest. The band also recently made is US television debut with a live performance on NBC’s “Last Call With Carson Daly.”
Metal Xmas Album And A Headbanging New Year

ARMOURY RECORDS WISHES YOU A METAL XMAS
~And A Headbanging New Year~
New York, NY—On October 14, Armoury Records, distributed by Eagle Rock Entertainment, released one mighty molten metal blast of good CD cheer: We Wish You A Metal Xmas And A Headbanging New Year [pre-book date September 24, Retail Sales Price $15.98].
It’s an all-star assemblage as members of such great hard rock bands as Foo Fighters, Queensryche, Dio, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Dokken, KISS, L.A. Guns, Marilyn Manson, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, King’s X, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Ratt, Styx, Toto, Shadows Fall and more all jam out together on some of the most beloved holiday songs of all time (including “Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer”)..
The kick is in the chemistry between the musicians as members of different bands perform together on the material to create a one-of-a-kind listening experience! Motorhead’s Lemmy, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, for instance, team up on “Run Rudolph Run,” a song popularized by Chuck Berry. This is just one of 12 such irresistible pairings.
“This is a metal CD you will want to listen to all year round,” says Wendy Dio, who put the project together with Bob Kulick and Brett Chassen. “It has been a very exciting and exhausting project, but we have managed to get an allstar cast together.”
Ironically, the hardest person to get was Dio himself as he doesn’t sing Christmas songs. Wendy hounded him for days, finally getting him to listen to Kulick’s arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” Dio liked it, added a few bits, recorded it at Kulick’s studio, and got Tony Iommi to add his signature guitar sound. The result is a very Sabbath Christmas song. Rounding out the circle of familiar characters on this track are Dio bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Simon Wright.
“The Metal Xmas album was a great opportunity to pay homage to my least favorite holiday,” says Dio, “and what a lineup of musicians to do it with! The arrangements of the classic noel songs are fresh and heavy with rock’n’roll, and the performances are equally classic. It’s a magical way to change your holiday listening.”

Is Velvet Revolver to be dropped by label for poor selling albums
November 18, 2008
Velvet Revolver has been dropped by its label, RCA Records, an inside source has told Blabbermouth.net. The band recorded two albums for the company, with its 2004 debut Contraband moving nearly two million copies, while the follow-up, 2007’s Libertad, sold only 300,000. The group, which features former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, also parted ways with vocalist Scott Weiland earlier this year and have yet to name a replacement.
Although Velvet Revolver has been auditioning new singers, Slash told us there are no plans to take the search to a reality series: “If we wanted to make a quick buck, that would be the way to go. There’s such a huge lack of integrity in that process, be it putting a band together or finding a relationship or finding a new best friend, whatever the premise is. It’s just a cheap way of doing things and I don’t think that you can actually find the individual or the character or the quality or whatever it is that’s important.”
Weiland reunited with his former band, Stone Temple Pilots, for a recently completed six-month tour.
Velvet Revolver has yet to make any sort of statement about the reported split with RCA.
Slash and McKagan have both been working on solo projects, while Sorum recently opened a boutique in Hollywood.
Meanwhile, Slash and his wife, Perla Hudson, have posted a message on YouTube in which they speak out against California’s recently passed anti-gay Proposition Eight.

free Dr Pepper,Axl Rose , Guns N Roses, Chinese Democracy, album

Guns N’ Roses Bring A Free Dr Pepper To All Americans: Here’s How To Get Yours! Published by Chris Harris on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 6:00 pm.
Now that the November 23 release date for Guns N’ Roses’ oft-delayed, more-than-a-decade-in-the-making album, Chinese Democracy, seems to be a reality, Dr Pepper owes every American a can of soda.
Back in March, the beverage company said that it would give every man, woman, and a child in the U.S. a free can of Dr. Pepper should Guns N’ Roses release Chinese Democracy before the close of 2008. And now, the event no one — certainly not the folks at Dr Pepper — thought would happen is rapidly approaching.
“We never thought this day would come,” Tony Jacobs, vice president of marketing for Dr Pepper, said in a statement issued Wednesday. “But now that it’s here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.”
So, how does Dr Pepper plan on dispensing the free sodas? Well, on November 23 — and only on November 23 — thirsty Americans can log on to the official Dr Pepper Web site and register all of their vitals, so that the company can mail them a coupon for a free 20-ounce can of the drink. Once that coupon arrives in the mail, redeem it wherever Dr Pepper is sold. The last step in the process, according to the press release: “Drink your Dr Pepper slowly to experience all 23 flavors. Dr’s orders.”
As we said, registration for the free Dr Pepper coupons is available only for 24 hours, beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET on November 23, and the coupons will have an expiration date of February 28, 2009. Obviously, there is a coupon limit — one per person.
So get out your straws and chill those glasses, kids — the Dr will be in your fridge soon, all thanks to Mr. Axl Rose.
