Two guys who grew up in Rockford and their Chicago band have a one-in-six chance of opening for Mötley Crüe on the rock icon’s 2009 U.S. tour.
The Last Vegas, formed by brothers Nate Arling, 29, and Adam Arling, 32, will audition Nov. 10 at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Hollywood before Mötley Crüe members. Five other bands also are performing there with the hope of being chosen to go on the tour. It’s the top prize in the Guitar Center On-Stage: Your Chance to Make Rock History contest.
The groups were selected as finalists from 7,930 bands that registered at makerockhistory.com. The top 30 bands were chosen from fan votes and judges, and they performed in regional finals.
Along with opening for Mötley Crüe, the winning band gets prizes including $25,000 cash, $20,000 in Gibson gear and a recording deal. Mötley Crüe’s 1980s hits include “Shout at the
Devil,” “Smokin’ in the Boys’ Room,” “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Dr. Feelgood.”
Other Last Vegas members are Chad Cherry, vocals; John Wator, guitar; and Anthony Rubino, bass. Nate Arling plays drums; Adam Arling, guitar.
The Last Vegas describes its music as “the return of trashed-up, guitar-driven, leather-clad rock.” The band has sold more than 10,000 records and toured in 17 countries. It leaves next week for a European tour. It last played in Rockford this summer at Bar 3.

Nate Arling told the Register Star in a telephone interview that opening for Mötley Crüe would be an “amazing experience.”
“We are very hungry to keep moving up the ladder,” he said. “Winning this could really be the springboard.”
