DEICIDE - ‘GOING POSTAL’ ARTIST DRAWS GLEN BENTON IN 5 EASY STEPS
DEICIDE frontman, Glen Benton, was the subject of Revolver Magazine’s ‘Going Postal’ feature for their August 2008 issue. In it, he answered questions e-mailed to the magazine from fans around the world. The jewel of the feature, however, was the killer drawing of Benton sitting beside a fireplace, tossing letter after letter into the roaring fire. In an exclusive post on Revolver Magazine’s blog, the artist of the piece, “Ghoulish” Gary Pullin discusses the steps he took to create the drawing and shows you exactly how the drawing looked every step of the way, from the concept piece to the final version that was featured in the magazine.
“Step 1
Reference and research. I admit I don’t know much about Deicide, other than spotting metal dudes wearing T-shirts at various metal shows, so I looked further into the band. I found some reference photos via their website and asked Josh to provide some shots of Glen. I remember thinking, Oh yeah… he’s the guy who burned the upside-down cross on his head. Cool! After listening to the infamous song “Fuck Your God,” which has been used to torture terror suspects by the U.S. Army, I was immediately inspired.”
