Where is Chinese Democracy album from Axl Rose and Guns N Roses?
In December of 2006, Axl Rose released a statement of a "tentative release date" for Chinese Democracy on the 6th of March 2007. It was mentioned that concert shows in California had to be canceled in order to try and meet this release date. The statement also said that the band was going to do everything in its power to meet this date……….
Well guess what year it is? yes it’s 2008! And guess what month it is? Yes it’s March. And at the time of writing this, its March 5th 2008, and yes tomorrow it will be March 6th 2008, a year on from that tentative release date.
Still no official statement has been released from the Guns N Roses camp since December 2006 as to what is happening. All that has been released in recent weeks is speculation like any other year. Apparently the album is complete and it has been handed into Geffen, Universal or whoever is the label these days and that Axl is looking for more money to promote his album.
It’s difficult to believe anything anymore relating to the name Guns N Roses. It’s almost like a brand name that has been torn apart. Everything that it has represented is diminishing the more time that passes. The only thing that keeps this name intact is the memory of what the original band was, the years of appetite, illusion’s and lies.
All people hear these days about Guns N Roses, is an album release, it’s coming out….it’s coming soon….chicken coup’s,…..bucket head’s…..tentative release date’s…..most expensive album ever made….canceled shows….it’s finished but……Years pass by and nothing ever happens. It used to be so easy for Guns N Roses to make music, this was a band who used to create their greatest tunes over a few days. Yet this complex record just goes on and on.
The question still remains though after 17 years without any original album.
Where is Chinese Democracy?
A little respect goes a long way with the fans. Its just common courtesy to say "look this is what is happening everyone." All that has been happening so far, is nothing but disrespect. Fans spend their hard earned money to make this band what it is, and all you get back in return is a lack of information.
Time will tell whether this band is still relevant, purposeful or has any reason to be still around. To be frank about things, it’s gotten to the stage that people have either forgotten or do not really care anymore. It’s sad but it is fact.

100% on the money. Where the **** is it????????????
never coming out. he doesnt need to release it. there is no money in album sales. everyone rips music off via internet. better to keep album a legend and get people to come to concerts to hear the music…
the dude aint an idiot. just modern music marketing…
Obviously you know that people care or you wouldn’t have written the piece, but the frustration level has these numbers dropping
Yes, it would be nice to know what is going on, but it isn’t that big a deal at all. It certainly doesn’t amount to disrespect in any way, shape or form because we don’t know what is going on. The fact of the matter artists are not obligated to share the details of the creative process with us.
As far as the fans-spending-their-money issue, yes, we’ve spent our money. But we’ve gotten what we payed for. I spent money on concerts in 2006 and I got amazing, unforgettable shows. I spent money to buy past albums, and I got my money’s worth. Money spent on past concerts and albums does NOT entitle any fan to any future creative efforts from any artist. That is a completely misplaced sense of entitlement.
Having seen the band live, they have plenty of reason to still be around. They kick ass live and are absolutely one of the most talented bands around.

yeah or when it does come out it will probably be some POS thing like country or techno…. I will keep hoping with all my heart
‘Word on the street’ is that hard rock/metal is shaping to become ‘mainstream’ again in the next two to three years, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s released with a lot of fanfare around that time too. That’s if it’s even written…
Chinese Democracy being well received, will be a tall order for Axl’s GnR. The problem Axl’s created with it, is the amount of collaborators who have contributed to it have destined it to be a huge critical target. Then there’s the issue of Axl, himself. When there’s a madman at the helm, avoiding bad reviews - which there will be plenty of, unless it sounds like Jesus himself produced it - will be near impossible.
Good or bad, it will sell by the bucketload, but not even Christopher Guest could come up with Spinal Tap story as funny as the Mystery of Chinese Democracy!
Well the old band did not write their songs in just few days, at least they didn’t finish them in few day, many of the songs in the Illusion albums date back to mid ’80s, and those albums are said to be rushed out, before the band was truly happy with all the content.
Even though it has taken about 10 years (counting from ‘98 when the “new band” begun working) to finish Chinese Democracy, that isn’t the only album that they have ready, Sebastian Bach has said many times that there is more like 3-4 albums, so about 3 years per album.
First off, people need to back off. i completely agree with Ali. The band has no obligation to make music for you. Would people really have been more happy if this band totally went away when the founding members left? i have been following this thing since ‘01, so i know its hard to bare through it but i’m sure you will all appreciate the new album when it comes out.
there are a lot of factors that go into why it is talking so long. the thing you have to remember is all the band members that have gone through GNR. they didn’t all leave at the same time. they left one by one. so one by on Axl had to replace them, and put the new members on the album to make it relevant. that takes time. nobody learns hundreds of songs over night. another thing is that the band has not been working on just this album all this time. the album wasn’t even started until 1999. since then, they have made four albums that they plan to release consecutively. that’s an album every two years, which isn’t bad considering all the band changes that have happened. lastly, i don’t know if anyone here has seen or heard concerts from ‘01 and ‘02, but Axl’s voice was not the same. after not recording or preforming for 5 years, his voice had changed quite a bit. now over time since then he has built his voice back up to where it used to be. so until a couple years ago, the vocals were not where they needed to be for the album.
Be sure that after all the time and money sunk into this album, Axl wants it to come out too. and with a super band and, top-of-the-line- producers, premium funding, and all the effort put in, know that this album will rock. it will smash through this pathetic emo scene and restore rock to where it used to be. in
Never gonna happen.
Axl drank my milkshake. He drank it up.
jeff, funny There WIll Be Blood reference lol (which was a reference to something else too).
My only 2 cents is: not only will Axl be getting my money for his CD(s), but he may make a small fortune with the actual story behind making ChiDem. One solid book written with a well-founded biographer would make an excellent read. Because s’far as I can tell, no one absolutely knows what went into the making of, what caused the delays, how many songs there really are, etc etc.
i’ve given up on him, he’s been doing this thru out his career, he delayed concerts, sometimes dint show up , pissed off people, if he does things his way, this-is-what-happens, i used to be a die hard gnr fan, but i’m not buying “chinese-dem”.
