Who is the better touring front man? Dave Mustaine of Megadeth or James Hetfield of Metallica?
We would like to know. A website brought up this interesting conversation but do leave a comment below to let me know what you think.
"To very very large degree, Megadeth and Metallica both are responsible for almost all of the great new metal bands out today." (Mustaine, 1998)
"I think that James and I are very much the same man. I think that we grabbed an angel, split him in half, and both of us are possessing that power." (Mustaine, 1983)

Dave and James, 1982 - friends
"Dave was all speed. He had no feeling, he had no pull-offs, he had no brilliant things. He tried to get brilliant sometimes, but it would sound awful." (Hetfield, 1983)

Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield, 1996 - enemies
How things have changed.
"I still love James very much. I respect his ability as a player and I miss him. But there was a reason why it ended. A lot of it had to do with drugs and alcohol on my part. He never did drugs. A lot of it had to do with the fact I was a violent asshole. He wasn’t. He was a very gentle person when we were together although he enjoyed listening to very violent music. We would drive 60 miles an hour up and down the Pacific Coast Highway in the fog, drunk and listening to Venom." (Mustaine, 1998)
"James and I have always been the main thing in this band, and we always looked at Dave and Ron [McGovney] and thought, ‘This is fine for now, but… ‘ We had a vision and these guys weren’t gonna last. We weren’t gonna kick them out, but if we happened to find someone who could fit in, we get’em in the band." (Ulrich, 1983)

Dave Mustaine all the way! Hey whatever Happened to Metallica they haven’t
made a record since 2003, slackers. Megadeth has made at least 3 albums between 2003 - 2008. okie I’m done. DAVE MUSTAINE!!!!
I think Dave is a great guitar player, comes up with some amazing riffs, but in my opinion, James is far superior in both guitar playing, singing, and overall stage presence. I’ve seen both Metallica and Megadeth both live before and Metallica sounded more solid and together. Better musically and overall a better show to be a part of. Megadeth, although playing with a lot of energy, was sloppy and Dave has a not so good live singing voice.

I would say James is better. Dave definitely has his moments where he’s the baddest mofo on stage, but James is always in your face attitude and total metal on the dot. I own S&M and cunning stunts metallica and they rock, I also bought That One Night Live in Buenos Aires Megadeth and Dave seemed like he wasn’t really pouring his heart into it very much. That’s why James gets my vote, he’s always gives one hundred percent…
its not even a debate, it goes without saying
DAVE MUSTAINE all the way
Dave Mustaine, by far is a better everything. I really suck, especially now!
hahahahah this is bull**** ofc its James Dave can’t sing **** but he is a good guitar player
Dave Mustaine of course he’s the best he gets it we all know whats going on in the world and he puts it in music Rock on
James is the better front man. I think James utilizes his inspiration from Country and Blues too, which truly makes for a more diverse sound than Megadeth.
I love both bands for very different reasons and I totally agree with the quote, “To very very large degree, Megadeth and Metallica both are responsible for almost all of the great new metal bands out today.” (Mustaine, 1998).
Love ‘em or hate them, they are the modern day grandfathers of metal, just as Lemmy Killmeister and Tony Iommi et al were the same for their generation.
