So why does Marilyn Manson always getting blamed for society’s problems?
I never understood why people blamed MM for school shootings--Columbine
and this. I guess they just need, as marilyn says, a scape goat, and he's
it. I'm 16, and I am a huge fan of MM. No, I am not goth. In fact I'm a
nerd, band geek, and a cheerleader, not to mention I think if I lived
during they 60s I would've been somewhat of a hippie. Random, right?
sorry, I deterred. The point is, I don't look the part. And that is the
stereo type, isn't it? you have to be a goth, rebellious, atheist (oh
yeah, I'm protestant--go presbyterians!) teen, but that's not the case at
all. There is FAR 'worse' music out there. And some people that listen
to harder core music at all don't like him either, they think he's a freak
because he wears make up. Some people are scared because of his make up
too. I personally just see him as a guy that wears make up...but it's
darker because he's goth, not gay. And people fear what they don't know.
They just assume he's a satanist wanting to kill everybody. He's not.
He's an atheist. and his lyrics aren't overly violent. Yeah, there are
some parts, I won't lie. but they're mostly mimicing the government, or
the news, the fact that all they show is violence. He doesn't actually
promote violence. I'm quite sure he's kinda against it. And NO WHERE
does he ever say anything about shooting up your school. His rebellion
that he asks for is the rebellion of being one of the herd, being
yourself. Which, don't schools promote too? Surely you remember all the
'be yourself' signs and of course the popular "if all your friends were
jumping off a bridge" question. Not such a bad concept, huh? one of my
fav. quotes is: "I never said to be like me, I say to be like you and make
a difference " or a similar one "Kids need to start thinking for
themselves. Not to be like their friends that think they're individuals. I
don't want you to be like us, I want you to be like you ". that's what
he's all about..individualism, and art. He's huge on art. And the man's
an artist. I just think that people, if they're truely THAT concerned
over a man they know nothing about, should just loook him up. It's not
too hard to find info. Read a couple interviews. He's pretty amiable.
and he has a really great sense of humor. just don't judge him.. they
world's to judgemental any way...besides, who are you to judge?

Well that’s exactly the problem. Religious sand political leaders don’t want you to be like you. They want you to be like them. So of course they won’t take kindly to odballs like Manson. They don’t want young people questioning religious faith or conventional morality or the current order of things. So of course they demonize at every opportunity. They are threatened by that kind of thinking, and alarmed that it might take hold in the young.
It is also easier to blame musicians than to question oneself. Better to blame Marylyn Manson than the availability of guns or the national fetish for violence. That would require self evaluation, and maybe change.
