“If you play this record backwards, you’ll still hear voices telling you to break shit, get arrested, and drink Jägermeister. They just might suggest you read a history book, too.” – VILLAGE VOICE

“the deeper you go into the record, the more reassured you become that these musicians know what they’re great at.” – NEW YORK TIMES

“if there were a list of heavy metal commandments, number 666 would read: “Thou shalt devote thyself to the worship of High On Fire”. Every riff Matt Pike unleashes is beyond colossal…Pay your respects.” – KERRANG!

“Already regarded as one of modern metal’s most face-meltingly fantastic bands, High on Fire further solidifies its reputation with Death is This Communion, the Oakland trio’s fourth, most commanding album.”SAN FRANCISCO WEEKLY

“No longer the best stoner-metal band in the land, High on Fire is now clearly, simply one of the country’s best metal bands, period.” – DALLAS OBSERVER

“shirtless metal somewhere between Motorhead’s biker thunder and Slayer’s muscular riffology. Still far and away one of the best metal acts going.” – AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN

“the trio will steamroll your senses — a year of nonstop touring behind 2005’s Blessed Black Wings has made the already tight HoFan unstoppable metal monster” – NEW TIMES

“the apocalypse’s doomy, amp-destroying fifth horseman… galloping mammoth metal” - SPIN

“unbelievably heavy…massive crunching riffs and drums that slam like vault doors” - REVOLVER

“HIGH ON FIRE build a temple to The Riff and preach its word as loudly as humanly possible” - AUSTIN CHRONICLE

“For a band getting as much crossover attention as they do, locals High on Fire have remained staunchly, unapologetically metal over the years. Celtic Frost-meets-the Melvins riffage, topped off with vocals so hoarse they make Lemmy sound like a choirboy.” -SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN

“the sound of the planet getting broadsided by a shower of asteroids, and the crushing terror of 20-story stone beasts methodically obliterating everything in their path with each malevolent stomp. And you won’t want it to end.” - PHOENIX NEW TIMES

September 27, 2007

Foo Fighter Dave Grohl wants to play with Led Zeppelin. Get in line buddy.

Dave Grohl said: “Ah, if I got that call, what the fuck do you think I’d be saying?” Grohl said. “I’d say, ‘Hey [FOO FIGHTERS bandmates] Chris and Taylor, let’s take a little break for a few days, I’ll see ya later!’ But I don’t expect that to happen.”

“Jason [Bonham] should be the one,” he said. “Everyone knows that. He’s a fucking phenomenal drummer.”

Another desparate indie label needs to cash in with Metallica Xmas tribute album

September 27, 2007

Once again, a desparate indie label needs to cash in another tribute. This one is for Metallica. Vitamin Records said:

We’ve taken rock’s biggest and baddest songs and shaped them into Christmas instrumentals that would make Irving Berlin blush. This Christmas, ask for something that’s really gonna rock your bells.

“Better pray that the Sandman comes early this Christmas Eve. If Santa catches you awake, you ain’t gettin’ jack. But if he’s a METALLICA fan, your two front teeth might be handed to instead! METALLICA’s fury can be felt all the way to the North Pole. What better way to ring in the holidays than with these merry versions of their legendary metal anthems?”

“…And Christmas For All! The Holiday Tribute to Metallica” track listing:

01. Nothing Else Matters
02. For Whom the Bell Tolls
03. One
04. The Unforgiven
05. Fade to Black
06. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
07. Wherever I May Roam
08. Master of Puppets
09. Battery
10. The Call of Ktulu
